Dutch no longer going Dutch

27 Jun

We have here from the Gatestone Institute and article detailing how the Netherlands plans to officially abandon it’s policy of multiculturalism. This change has been brought on by the increasing presence of muslim immigrants to that country and their often sharp refusals to assimilate into Dutch/European culture.

The move follows similar moves and discussions that are ever increasing  across Europe on the subject.

From the Gatestone article;

The letter continues: “A more obligatory integration is justified because the government also demands that from its own citizens. It is necessary because otherwise the society gradually grows apart and eventually no one feels at home anymore in the Netherlands. The integration will not be tailored to different groups.”

The new integration policy will place more demands on immigrants. For example, immigrants will be required to learn the Dutch language, and the government will take a tougher approach to immigrants to ignore Dutch values or disobey Dutch law.

The government will also stop offering special subsidies for Muslim immigrants because, according to Donner, “it is not the government’s job to integrate immigrants.” The government will introduce new legislation that outlaws forced marriages and will also impose tougher measures against Muslim immigrants who lower their chances of employment by the way they dress. More specifically, the government will impose a ban on face-covering Islamic burqas as of January 1, 2013.

If necessary, the government will introduce extra measures to allow the removal of residence permits from immigrants who fail their integration course.

If the ever tolerant Dutch, decide that refusal to integrate is cause for penalization and even deportation, then clearly the issue has been worked over and the current status quo deemed unfit for a successful society.

It’s all so different from the immigration policy recently brought forth by President Obama. Which considering his effort only covered a small portion of the issue, one would expect more to be done at some later point to complete the saga.

It’s only slightly embarrassing that it’s taken this long for countries to figure out that if someone wants to come and live in your country, but refuses to fit in and instead demands that you change in order to accommodate them, that said person should probably be told to take a hike.

However, it is even more embarrassing that this can be marked down as another example of failed socialist policy that is being abandoned in Europe while being accepted and put into place in the United States.
